Our Vision

This mentoring program will provide the framework for positive relationships between individuals and the environment, the business community, school community, and the community at-large. These relationships will allow the youth to make positive connections between the natural world, the work place, school and their community. Students will be helped to develop personal skills and career awareness in order to make better life-long decisions and contributions to their communities.

The Growing Green Hands: An Intergenerational Mentoring Program also advances philanthropy in our community as participants enjoy the opportunity to give back by sharing their own experiences. All participants will learn that a healthy relationship with nature is a wise investment in our community's future.

This program began with a pilot Nature Story-Telling event in the Summer of 2009; to begin to generate interest from possible participants in Brisbane. The stories and outcomes that result from this event will be posted on the Growing Green Hands web site to inspire continued awareness and interest. The City of Brisbane has already agreed to Co-sponsor this program and provide facilities and advertising.

Training seminars for Mentors and other volunteers will be 2 hours and will be scheduled on Sundays from 2 to 4 p.m. (held in Brisbane's Community Center). The schedule will vary, but we will limit training seminars to no more than twice a month.  Personalized training may be offered to those who are unable to attend group training-for applicants with special needs.

One-to-one mentoring and group mentoring will begin once there are trained mentors and volunteers to draw from - we anticipate June, 2010 for formal Mentoring to begin.  Most school-based services are already being provided, but additional services may be offered beginning in Fall of 2010.
